The American Kennel Club describes the Canine Good Citizen Program as a program to teach good manners

to dogs and responsible dog ownership to their owners. Our program is fun, and our goal is that you will both exceed the minimum standards of the AKC program.

Therapy dogs must pass the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and therapy dog certification test. While the training is thorough, it is less extensive than service dog training.

While many dogs are companions, other dogs do serious work that helps others. Working dogs have real jobs that they take very seriously. These dogs have natural talents that are carefully honed with intensive training.
